What I'm doing now

During my final year at Lancaster, I was accepted onto the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme so after graduation I moved to Hokkaido, the most Northern Prefecture in Japan to begin work as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT). I team teach with the Japanese Teacher of English at three Junior High Schools in Yoichi, a small coastal town an hour North West of Sapporo city.

My best Lancaster memory

I have many great memories of Lancaster so it is difficult to pinpoint a specific moment. Some highlights are dancing in the Sugarhouse, relaxing with a good coffee and book in Cafe Republic, running the forest trail in the spring and seeing all the beautiful flowers bloom and chatting about all sorts of interesting ideas and concepts with one my lecturers for whom I feel privileged to have been a student and from whom I learnt many great things!

What Lancaster means to me

Studying at Lancaster was one of the best choices I have made. It opened me up to a variety of experiences and life lessons which have proven invaluable and I will never forget. One of the best things about Lancaster is the sense of community. I met many wonderful people through the college, societies and class. Despite graduating and moving onto new adventures, Lancaster will always feel like a second home to me and I look forward to going back to visit.

Why I volunteer as an alumni group co-ordinator

Living in a new part of the world can be daunting at first, so it would be great to help people connect with those whom we have commonalities with. I hope many people will benefit from building a network of Alumni contacts in Japan. Most importantly, it will be great fun to chat and meet with Lancaster Alumni on the islands, an opportunity to share stories and create wonderful friendships.
