Nova Scotia Contact: Jean Helms Mills
Jean is the Lancaster alumni contact in Nova Scotia. To contact Jean please email her.
I am a Professor of Management in the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia and a Professor (2.0) at Jyväaskylä University, School of Business and Economics. I am fortunate that my husband is also an academic, so we get to work and travel together.
One of my best memories is of the Saturday night dinner parties in Graduate College, with other international students. We would all take turns hosting a dinner that featured a dish from our country. Since I was the only Canadian at the time, I used to get included in other country groups. So by the end of the year I had become an honourary citizen of America, the UK, Germany and The Netherlands and learned many new recipes!
Least favourite memory was getting up at 6 am in order to secure a seat in the computer lab to work on my thesis. Those were the days before the internet and laptops. So if you wanted to use a computer, you had to be early!
Besides my professors giving me a good education and exposing me to new ways of thinking and learning, I made lifelong friends at Lancaster that I am still in regular contact with today.
I have such good memories of my time at Lancaster and I want to be able to share them with other prospective students. It was a Canadian Lancaster alum who answered my questions when I was going through the application process, which helped me enormously, so I would like to do the same for others.
