Alumni Volunteering

Many graduates choose to volunteer for the University in different ways

On the linked pages you can find out more about some of the ways in which our volunteers give back to their University and how they have supported us.

In the UK alone there are over 21 million volunteers making a huge difference to the communities in which they serve.  Here at Lancaster we have over 2500 volunteers who donate their time to support the University in many different ways:

  • Student Recruitment Support
Alumni volunteers play an important role in helping to recruit and support prospective and soon to be students, providing invaluable knowledge about what it's like to study at Lancaster. We may ask for help with recruitment fairs, acting as a direct contact or helping at a pre-departure event.
  • Careers Support
Lancaster graduates can help with careers support for both students and other alumni. This includes mentoring, being a careers speaker, offering one to one advice or providing work placements.
  • Guest Speaker
Becoming a guest speaker is a great way to share insights and knowledge to both the alumni and student community.  We are very privileged to have a number of people who are willing to speak at events.

  • University Advisory Boards and Committees
The University has a number of Advisory Boards and Committees. Their role is to support the mission of the University, to ensure the wider interests are served and associated with the institution. Representation comes from the local community, alumni, staff, students and other bodies with an interest in the University.
  • Group Co-ordinators
Group volunteers organise and manage events as well as offering support and advice to alumni relocating to their country where they provide a ready-made network of alumni. We have a network of group volunteers across the world.

If you are feeling inspired  and are interested in volunteering you can find out more here and if you are a LUMS graduate there is also further information.

Message from the Vice-Chancellor

"I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank our volunteers for giving their time so generously to support us; their advice, experience, expertise and support is appreciated greatly by all of us at Lancaster University.

By donating their time so generously they play an important role in helping us to engage effectively with our alumni community and deliver our mission of enriching the student experience; their words, actions and commitment are making a real difference to the lives of our students, staff and alumni."
