Welcome from the Vice-Chancellor
Lancaster has come a long way in its first fifty years as a university. Now we're focusing on the next fifty years and beyond – and we want you to be part of it.
We are proud to have established ourselves as a research-led, research excellent university, with a reputation for the quality of our education. This has led to our consistently highly ranked UK league table positions making us 10th in the Guardian league table, 9th in the Complete University Guide and 11th in the Times/Sunday Times.
There are many contributory factors to Lancaster's success, but one of the main reasons is the high quality of our early academic appointments and the groups and departments built around our founding senior academics.
We place a real focus and emphasis on our staff and are making a major investment in our academic future.
Our 'Fifty for Fifty' lectureships are being launched as part of our 2020 University Plan, which aims for us to consistently be in the top 10 of UK universities and top 100 internationally, alongside our People Strategy which focuses attention on attracting, retaining and rewarding our staff.
Lancaster University is looking for the next generation of research academics: those with the big ideas, the unstoppable desire to know more, and the determination to succeed. If you fit the bill, the exciting opportunity will offer two years to focus on building up your research portfolio, plus expert support to help you progress quickly in your academic career.
It takes the extraordinary to stand out. So make your mark with Lancaster University.
I look forward to meeting you.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith
