Live Brazilian sandflies which transmit a tropical disease were on display at our Open Day in the Faculty of Health and Medicine.

Prospective students and their families met lecturers to discover more about the work of the Faculty and the benefits of studying in a top-twenty department.

Lancaster is ranked in the top 20 for Biological Sciences in the Complete University Guide 2017 and in the top 15 for Biosciences in the Guardian University Guide 2017.

There were opportunities to explore our facilities, which have recently received multi-million pound investment, and discover how researchers are finding answers to the big global questions in emerging areas.

Professor Paul Bates said: “Prospective students were fascinated to see our display with live Brazilian sand flies, which transmit the tropical disease leishmaniasis, as it helped them understand the vital link between research and teaching about infectious diseases. This is just one example of the research-led teaching that we strongly advocate at Lancaster.”
