The Junior Common Room is a great space to relax, do some work or have some fun. There is a pool table, dart boards and table tennis. Most of the events arranged by the JCR Exec will either be in the JCR or start off here.
'The Trough of Bowland’ is the oldest bar on campus, offering a cosy interior. Serving a range of drinks and famous for its pies, it is a popular venue with both students and staff. The bar has regular open mic nights and coordinates student events with the JCR Exec. For more information, including a menu and opening times, see The Trough of Bowland website.
The Calder Room (A62) in Bowland Main is a dedicated space available to Bowland students who do not live on campus. The room provides a small study space, tables, sofas and two computers. Next door there is a small kitchen with two microwaves, a kettle, toaster, a hot and cold water tap, two fridges and a freezer. This means you can bring lunch with you rather than spend money on campus.
There is ample study space available on campus; the Library, the Learning Zone are all available for you to use. There is a PC lab in Bowland North (A64), which has 26 computers and a printer. You can access the PC Lab 24/7 using your University identity card. There are also quiet study spaces located in various locations around campus.
Students who do not live on campus can hire a locker for the duration of the academic year, useful for storing belongings that you don’t want to carry with you all day. Lockers can be hired for £15 for the academic year; a refund of £10 will be processed providing the key is returned at the end of the hire period. Mail can be collected from the post boxes in Bowland foyer, opposite the Porters' Lodge. Mail is alphabetised and placed in the box which corresponds to the first letter of your surname. A key is available from the porters on production of your University ID card. All students, whether resident or not should check their post regularly as internal mail is also sent via this method. Parcels will be kept in the Porters' Lodge for collection.
