University Staff

The service has been designed to ensure that the departmental administration associated with the hire of temporary staff is fair, equitable and compliant with our legal obligations.

By moving the administration for issuing 'engagement agreements' to the ERS team we will relieve colleagues throughout the institution of the task of collecting and issuing, collating and storing engagement forms, and right to work paperwork, associated with the current hiring process.

  • Our service

The ERS will relieve colleagues throughout the institution of the tasks associated with:

    • Collecting and issuing engagement forms
    • Collating and storing this documentation
    • Ensuring that those appointed have the right to work
    • Obtaining and retaining all documents required to satisfy our legal obligations
    • Ensuring that we are UKBA compliant

The service will promote employment opportunities within the University, with other employers on campus and with other local and national employers.

Employment opportunities will be advertised through the University’s Career Management System (TARGETconnect) and other channels where appropriate.

Our team will work with hiring managers to enable you to efficiently and effectively recruit the staff you need.

Our service will not replace the support provided by HR colleagues for the recruitment of sessional teaching and research roles.

  • Hiring manager responsibilities

To ensure the efficient running of the service and to ensure that we are able to meet your requirements, hiring managers should:

    • Ensure they have approval/delegated authority from their Head of Department to appoint temporary casual staff
    • Provide cost codes for any appointments they wish to make
    • Refer any queries that casual workers may have regarding the service to our staff
    • Advise anyone seeking casual work to register with the service
    • Ensure that those you employ maintain their time sheets and submit these for approval on-time
    • Ensure that you check and authorise time sheets submitted to you for approval on-time

Your co-operation will be much appreciated and will help to ensure that the service is able to respond to your recruitment requests and ensure that those we employ are paid promptly.
