The 2016 national FLUX 500 Business Challenge Competition was held on 6 and 7 January 2016 at Lancaster University. Huge congratulations to the FLUX 2016 champions, Manchester Metropolitan University, second place winners University of Bedfordshire, and third place winners Lancaster University.

Twelve student teams from UK universities competed to solve a Business Challenge using Xing, a business tool developed by the Working Knowledge Group.

The business challenge was set by IBM, one of the competition's corporate sponsors. Competitors acted as a team of newly hired business strategists/ analysts to explore ways a hypothetical department store chain with around 80 stores in the UK and Scotland could improve profitability to compete with online stores using strategy and new technology.

Students had access to business advisers during the competition to help them develop, plan, and present their strategy.

A panel of business experts judged the pitches and picked the winning team: Manchester Metropolitan University.

FLUX Qualifiers

In week 8 of Michaelmas term Careers ran a Flux qualifier to identify the student team who went on to represent Lancaster University at the competition. It helped Lancaster to put forward the best team possible into this prestigious competition.

The best teams represent a blend of skills from different disciplines, so don't miss this opportunity to show what you can offer.
