Lancaster University is committed to supporting the UK Government’s ambitions to address skills gaps to increase productivity and improve UK economic performance. Lancaster has been included in the Register of Apprentice Training Providers (RoATP) opening up opportunities to deliver degree apprenticeship programmes to employers and to train our own apprentices.
Degree apprenticeships support the development of new and existing employees and are open to all age groups, from college leavers, through mid-career improvers up to senior executives, all of whom will benefit from the opportunity to study towards a higher qualification at Lancaster to underpin their experience.
In CETAD we are planning to offer the level 7 (Master’s Degree) apprenticeship in Leadership and Management. The standards for this apprenticeship have just been submitted for approval and we are are aiming to be able to implement the level 7 apprenticeship later this year.
As you may know, our postgraduate programmes have a strong focus on Work-based Learning and application into practice so we anticipate being able to design a Master’s framework to support the apprenticeship relatively quickly.
We are planning to retain the flexibility that our programmes offer for customised, bespoke designs to meet individual student and employer needs, including the ability to offer Accreditation of Prior Learning for those with experience and/or prior formal study. In addition over the past 12 months we have been transforming our delivery format with a move to online learning, reducing the need to attend face-to-face teaching sessions at the University.
We are in conversation with several NHS Trusts at present about converting staff development programmes to ‘sit’ within the apprenticeship framework.
