Competitions

We are delighted to be host to a number of regional events leading to national competitions.

Top of the Bench

Run by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), this annual event enthuses and excites children with chemistry and encourages them to consider further education and careers with chemistry. It is key to the efforts of securing the next generation of talented chemical scientists. The Top of the Bench competition is one of the RSC’s longest-standing activities for school children: together with its members they have been organising and running it for more than 20 years.

Salters' Festivals

Salters’ Festivals are a series of one-day fun events held at universities throughout the UK and Ireland. They begin in mid March and run through to the end of June. The festivals provide the opportunity for enthusiastic young students to spend a day in a university department and to take part in practical chemistry activities which are fun! Prizes are awarded to the winning teams and all students receive participation certificates and fun prizes. During the last 16 years over 44,000 students have experienced the fun of practical chemistry through the Salters’ Festivals and sponsorship in support of the Festivals has been raised from over fifty companies.

Since 2005 the Salters’ Festivals of Chemistry have been in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry. We thank them for their continued support.
