How to Apply

All places for 2014 entry have been filled. We are now accepting applications for entry in 2015.

To apply for any of the pathways, you need to use the university's online application system. Applications can be made at any point of the year. However, competition is intense, so please apply early.

Our online system is easy to use, and lets you do everything you need: from completing the form, uploading supporting documents (such as degree certificates, transcripts, language test results) and tracking the progress of your application. The process is the same, whether you are an UK/EU student or an international student.

What will be needed?

Please state clearly at the start of the 'personal statement' section of your application:

  1. Which programme pathway you wish to follow: computer science, design, engineering entrepreneurship or environmental science
  2. Your interest in the list of outline company led projects

The supporting documentation screen will list the documents you will need to supply. If you do not have all the documentation available when you make your application, you should indicate when you will be apply to supply this.

Remember to include contact details for your two referees. At least one of these should be able to comment on your academic suitability for the programme. If you have work experience, one of your referees should normally be your line manager.

We can then contact your referees, or they can send references directly to us.

Once you have applied

Application review

Once we have received your application and evaluated all essential supporting documents and test scores, a decision will be made regarding whether to shortlist you for interview. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email.

Interview

If we shortlist you for interview, we aim to offer you an interview slot within two to three weeks. The interviews will be either face-to-face for those who are able to travel to Lancaster or by telephone/Skype.

The interview forms a key part of the application process for this MSc because all students offered a place will be awarded a £16,000 tax free bursary over the duration of the programme. However, this is contingent on students being matched to suitable UK businesses participating in the Lancaster China Catalyst Programme and to their proposed topics for research and development. This will be reviewed as part of the interview process so that we can ensure a good match for both parties.

Offers of a place

We aim to notify you of our final decision within five working days after the interview. If we offer you a place, we ask that you respond within four weeks of receiving your formal offer. On acceptance we will require a deposit of £750. An offer is only valid while there are still places available on the programme.

Sometimes an offer may contain certain conditions - for example, that you achieve a certain grade in upcoming exams or a particular score in English language or GMAT tests.

If we offer you a place, you can log on to the online system to view your offer and reply. You have four weeks in which to accept the offer, and to pay your deposit to guarantee your place. The deposit will be deducted from your tuition fees on registration.

You will receive various packs of information by email before you start your studies. This will include information on accommodation and a welcome pack (sent in August), with details of induction programmes, travel and other pre-arrival information.

Students on this programme are required to undertake a company project in China and some students may require an immigration visa. The university will help and advise you through this process, but it is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct immigration visa to undertake your placement in China.
