This is a special cultural and historical trip to the Peak District, which is of course, the Lake District’s quieter, but just as beautiful sister. With its rolling hills, valleys, quaint villages and Spa towns, this region is one of Britain’s most well-guarded secret.
For this trip, we shall be visiting Castleton which is famous for its beautiful caves (four sets in all) with the famous Speedwell Cavern, where you can explore in little boats. You can also climb the hill to the Castle ruins which overlook the valley, or explore the ravine, which is now famous for various film sequences produced there. Aside from this the town is beautiful and you can indulge in cream teas and the like.
On the theme of food, another highlight of the day will of course be the Bakewell Pudding festival and race, where the whole town comes out to celebrate its heritage with pudding races, stalls, entertainments and bands and all manner of other great attractions. The town really does put its energy into making it a fantastic event, so prepare yourself and your taste buds.
As always, BUY EARLY.
