University Freshers’ Timetable

Alongside Grizedale organising events just for Grizedale freshers, the university and LUSU also have events planned. The University’s and LUSU’s events are listed below. For the Grizedale-only timetable, click here.

 

Monday 2nd October

  • 10:00am – 11:00am: Bystander Training and Fire Safety Matters (Essential), Great Hall
    Essential advice on fire safety at Lancaster University, followed by an entertaining, frank and enlightening talk about consent, designed and delivered by students for students.
  • 10:00am – 11:30am: Sports Centre Climbing Taster, Sports Centre
  • 12:00pm – 2:00pm: Free Lunch at the Chaplaincy, Chaplaincy Centre
  • 1:00pm – 3:00pm: Registration (Essential), LICA Building
    At this essential event you will become an official member of the University and pick up your University Card.
  • 2:00pm – 6:00pm: Meet your Major (Essential), Various
    Meet academic staff from your major subject department(s) and learn more about your course. Venue locations will be specified closer to the date.
  • 2:00pm – 4:00pm: Sports Centre Swim Taster
  • 4:00pm – 5:00pm: Sports Centre Insanity Taster

Tuesday 3rd October

  • 9:00am – 5:30pm: Minor Talks (Essential), Various
    These talks are intended for students who are not taking the courses below as their major, but may take them as a Part One minor subject. Each talk will provide you with an introduction to the course and provide you with a chance to ask questions.
  • 10:00am – 4:00pm: Campus Tours, Various
    The Campus Tours will be on at varying times throughout the day, ask your fresher reps for more information.
  • 10:00am – 10:45am: Introduction to IT and the Library, Elizabeth Livingston Various
    Talks also on at 11am, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
  • 10:00am – 11:30am Sports Centre Climbing Taster, Sports Centre
  • 11:00am – 12:00pm: Transport and Environment Talk, Marcus Merriman Various
    The out about local bus services, cycle routes and other travel options. Talks also on at 2pm.
  • 1:00pm – 3:00pm: Support Induction, Bowland North Seminar Room 23
    Information for students with disabilities, dyslexia and medical conditions.
  • 2:00pm – 4:00pm: Sports Centre Swim Taster, Sports Centre
  • 5:30pm – 6:30pm: Career Development, Biology LT
    Learn how you can engage with other activities outside of your degree to kick-start your career.
  • 6:00pm – 9:00pm: Lancaster Castle Tour, Lancaster Castle

Wednesday 4th October

  • 11:00am – 12:30am: Unismart (Essential), Great Hall
    An entertaining and informative guide to starting out at university.
  • 12:30pm – 2:00pm: Sports Centre Climbing Taster, Sports Centre
  • 1:00pm – 3:00pm: Support Induction, Bowland North Seminar Room 23

  • 3:30pm – 5:00pm: Sports Centre Introduction, Faraday LT
  • 4:00pm – 5:00pm: Part 1 Enrolment (Essential), Various

Thursday 5th October

  • 9:30am – 12:00pm: Orientation for International Students, George Fox Foyer

  • 12:00pm – 5:00pm: Freshers’ Fair – Part One (Recommended), Great Hall
    Meet the sports teams and societies at Lancaster University.

Friday 6th October

  • 9:00am – 6:00pm: Major Orientation (Essential), Various
    Meet with your major department(s) for an orientation session, prior to your course beginning next week. If you have joint or triple majors, please attend as many relevant sessions as possible. If you have a clash and would like advice on which to attend, please contact your departments for advice.
  • 12:00pm – 5:00pm: Freshers’ Fair – Part Two (Recommended), Great Hall
    Find out more about Lancaster University Students Union, from the Sugarhouse to Bailrigg FM and LA1:TV; volunteering, Campus Festival, Roses and more: The team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have and tell you about all you can do withthe students union while you’re in Lancaster.
  • 1:00pm – 2:00pm: Safety Briefing for Carers, Chaplaincy Centre
    You should attend this briefing if you are providing support and/or assistance for students with a disability as it is important that you are aware of the University’s emergency procedures.
  • 2:00pm – 2:45pm: Sports Centre Hula Taster

SPORTS TRIALS

Sports trials and talks for all teams will take place throughout the week. These are organised by both the university teams as well as Grizedale’s sports teams. More information will follow.
