In 2016 the Lancaster Debating Union and the Colleges organised the first Intercollegiate Debating Competition. First year participants are able to take part in speech and debating training from both the Debating and Public Speaking Society to develop their skills.
This year the College was represented by Adam Rowling, Khulat Hashmi, Jasdeep Sigh, Himani Pursnani Pursnani, John Kinson and Archie Atkinson. The first debating competition took place on Monday, 13th November and the motion was This House Believes That STEM subjects should be the main focus of curriculum in secondary schools. Pendle opposed this motion and contributed excellent points for discussion and irrefutable arguements. The team lost out to Fylde College by a mere two marks. All enjoyed the experience and received a Pendle t-shirt and mug in recognition of their efforts.
