About Pendle

Pendle College is named after the historical area 30 miles south of Lancaster, centred on Clitheroe but dominated by Pendle Hill, an area renowned for its association with the 17 Century witches and their subsequent trials at Lancaster Castle.

The seventh of the colleges and founded in 1974, Pendle moved into its new accommodation in 1994 at the south end of the main campus, where it benefits from its spacious open surroundings and views of the fells to the east.

To the south, Pendle now looks on to the striking Infolab building, and the villages of Ellel and Galgate beyond. Excellent facilities always ensure high demand for Pendle, and the college incorporates food outlets, the LUSU Central convenience store, and one of the largest college social areas at Lancaster, enabling it to be used as a music venue.

Community

Proud of its strong academic and sporting achievements, Pendle College has a well-developed sense of community, folklore, tradition and fun. So we’re always on the look out for students who will contribute to the continued success of the College.

Offering students a chance to be a part of a strong and friendly college community, it’s a vibrant place where thousands of students have enjoyed their University days. Some of the main events in Pendle’s busy social calendar include the Friday night parties, fancy dress bar crawls and Sunday night quizzes. The Pendle social space is traditionally the place to be to catch Live Bands on campus.

Our motto is Altiori Sequamor – Strive to Reach the Top

Social Scene

Pendle isn’t known as the Venue of Legends for nothing, and being one of the larger colleges it has enjoyed a diverse and striking student population over the years. You’d certainly meet your fair share of characters during your time here!

Pendle students excel in many areas ranging from sports to dancing, to good looks and dress sense, and the JCR even hold annual awards at their Christmas Ball to honour the best in all categories. Saturday Night Live, the Sunday Night Quiz and the Friday Night Parties, which often double as fancy dress events, are all responsible for creating many of the legends of Pendle! The college also encourages sport at competitive and social levels, and in 2012/3 we won both the Carter Shield and Legends Trophy. The silverware we currently have is displayed in the College’s Admin Foyer, near Pendle Porters’ Lodge.
