By Bicycle

Lancaster was recently a Cycling Demonstration Town (2005-2011) which means it benefited from increased investment in facilities and initiatives for cyclists. It takes 30 minutes or so to cycle from the city centre to campus on the two University signed routes.

An off-road cycle route runs from Whinfell Drive in Hala and enters the campus near Bailrigg House. A further off-road signed cycle route runs along the Lancaster Canal to the city centre. Most colleges have secure cycle stores at the newer buildings. Other residences have undercover cycle stands. Cycle hire is available at Leisure Lakes on Penny Street in the city centre.

Lancashire County Council and Lancaster City Council have produced the following to maps promote and encourage cycling and walking; footpaths and cycle routes are marked.

Visitor Car Parking

Visitor car parking is available on campus 24/7 and is free after 6pm.

If you’re visiting campus during the day then parking charges do apply and can be purchased from any of the 11 pay and display machines across campus a cost of £2 for two hours. Chip and pin card payment facilities are available at several machines. Alternatively, all-day visitor scratch cards are available from the cashiers' desk in University House priced at £5 each.

The nearest visitor parking zone for Lancaster Arts venues and the Ruskin Library is Visitor Parking Zone A on North West Drive and Bowland Avenue. To access this zone, take the first exit at the main roundabout and then continue forward for a hundred yards – the parking spaces are then located on each side of the road. Continue along the ring road to access other parking areas across campus.

The Sports Centre has a separate parking policy from the rest of the campus. Users of the Sports Centre can park for up to two hours free of charge at the Sports Centre Car Park or the Sports Field Car Park (Visitor Car Park K, accessible from Green Lane) subject to availability & restrictions. The tariff for the Sports Field Car Park has been reduced to just £1 per day (free ticket for the first 2 hours), perfect for visitor parking and parking for large events.

Wheelchair accessible spaces are clearly marked across all car parking areas on campus. Blue Badge holders should park in Bowland Avenue.
