|3 February 2014: Children get a taste of life in the Orient
Schoolchildren got a taste of the Orient as they celebrated Chinese New Year. Youngsters at Moor Park Primary School tried traditional Chinese dishes, created Asian art and learned phrases in Mandarin for the celebration.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute’s 2nd Annual Lecture was held. Professor Andrew Atherton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Lancaster University, gave an excellent lecture on the the private entrepreneurs’ role in China’s reform and growth of economy.

Lancaster University Confucius Institute organised a “Chinese Afternoon” at Moorside Primary School, close to the university. The six Chinese teachers gave an interesting experience of Chinese language and culture to about 60 Year-5 pupils.

On 17 November, Edward de Petrucci, a contestant from the Confucius Institute at Lancaster University, won the Bronze Prize at the finals of the “Jiangsu Cup Chinese Speech Contest” held at the University of Sheffield.

On 23rd September 2013, 24 young future leaders from China’s major banking groups visited the Confucius Institute at Lancaster University. The young future leaders are all members of All-China Youth Federation (ACYF).

On the evening of September 19th, the Confucius Institute at Lancaster University invited university students, staff and people from the local communities to the Institute to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, the Chinese traditional festival.
|August/September: Confucius Institute at Lancaster University Actively Participates in Lancaster University’s Open Days
On August 28th and September 21th Lancaster University held two Open Days. Over these two days approximately 16,000 upper school students and their parents came from across the UK to visit Lancaster University.
|21 August 2013: New Directors at CI
Confucius Institute team meeting was successfully held on the afternoon of 21st August 2013, at the Roundhouse, Lancaster University. This was the first meeting co-organized by the new directors, Dr. Richard Xiao (from Lancaster University) and Prof. Fengchun Zhang (from our partner, South China University of Technology).

Lancaster has been successful in its joint bid with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) in China, with Dr Richard Xiao as the PI and Prof Hai Xu from GDUFS as the Co-I. Dr Luke Harding and Prof Charles Alderson are on the Lancaster team.

Lancaster University fielded a British and Chinese team drawn from the campus and city to win third place in a dragon boat contest against the universities of Liverpool, Edge Hill and UCLan on Tuesday at Liverpool docks.
