James GrantPhD student
I completed my undergraduate degree at Heriot-Watt University and graduated in 2013 with a BSc (Hons) First Class in Statistical Modelling. I then completed an MRes in Advanced Statistics at the University of Glasgow, graduating with Distinction in 2014. I enjoyed the broad range of statistical topics involved in this programme and concluded my time there by completing a dissertation entitled "Bayesian Online Changepoint Detection in Solar Activity Data". This project involved introducing Monte Carlo Integration to an existing Bayesian algorithm, eventually allowing it to be used for more complicated data models.I joined the STOR-i programme as an MRes student in October 2014 and I am currently working on my PhD project entitled ‘Optimal Partition-Based Search’ in partnership with the Naval Postgraduate School. My Lancaster based supervisors are Professors David Leslie and Kevin Glazebrook and I receive additional supervision from Roberto Szechtman at NPS. My project involves devloping reinforcement learning algorithms for sequential problems in search and patrol.
