Science and Technology subjects have ranked among the best in all three major league tables this year. The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide released on Sunday 24th September placed several subjects in the top 10 in the UK.

Dean of the Faculty, Professor Pete Atkinson said: “I am delighted to see the Faculty of Science and Technology perform so strongly again in the league tables, with six out of ten subjects appearing in the top 10. There have been some significant gains for Chemical Engineering (rising to 8th from 13th overall) and Psychology (rising to 10th from 17th overall)."

Results

Biological Sciences has retained 5th place overall, and Lancaster Environment Centre has also had success with Geography and Environmental Science rising from 8th to 6th.

Physics and Astronomy has risen from 8th to 7th and placed 5th for graduate prospects, whilst Mathematics has maintained its top ten position rising from 9th to 8th overall.

Mechanical Engineering has risen from 16th to 11th place, and Chemistry is ranked in joint 12th place.

Graduate Prospects

Science and Technology has demonstrated particular excellence for our graduate prospects, with many subjects ranking among the top ten. Chemical Engineering is rated the best for graduate prospects in UK. Geography and Environmental Science was 3rd best, and Physics and Astronomy and Psychology both ranked in 5th place. Chemistry and Computer Science were both rated 8th best for graduate prospects. Mathematics has risen 11 places from 21st to 10th.

Lancaster University overall also ranked 6th in the UK - highest in the north of England - in the Good University Guide 2019, published in the Times and Sunday Times. Lancaster rated even better for employment prospects, at 3rd in the UK, with 89% of Lancaster students going on to find professional work or further education after graduation.

These results continue the University’s excellent performance in the Guide, which last year named Lancaster the 'University of the Year'.
