Masters Scholarships and Funding

You may be entitled to a number of scholarships and funding opportunities to aid your postgraduate study at Lancaster.

The fee that you will be charged depends on whether you are considered to be a UK, EU or overseas student. Visiting students will be charged a pro-rata fee for periods of study less than a year. Our annual tuition fee is set for a 12-month session, which usually runs from October to September the following year.

Scholarships

We currently offer Faculty of Science and Technology Scholarships for:

  • MSc Electronic Engineering
  • MSc Engineering Project Management
  • MSc Mechanical Engineering
  • MSc Mechanical Engineering with Project Management
  • MSc Wireless Communications Systems

The available awards are:

  • £2000 scholarships for academic excellence of the applicant
  • £5000 scholarships for economic need accompanied by either academic excellence or high potential of the applicant

The scholarship is awarded as a fee reduction and is allocated on the academic excellence of the applicant or high potential of the applicant.

Recipients of a scholarship will be asked to pay a deposit of £750 within 28 days of award. Failure to do so will mean the scholarship is reallocated later in the cycle.

Alumni Loyalty Scholarship

Lancaster University will offer a reduction in tuition fees for all taught Masters programmes for eligible applicants, determined by the level of undergraduate or postgraduate award achieved.

The value of the scholarship is as follows:

If you hold an Undergraduate degree from Lancaster University

  • 20% fee reduction for 1st Class Hons degree holders
  • 10% fee reduction for 2:1 Hons degree holders

If you already hold a Postgraduate degree from Lancaster University
For students who intend taking a second taught masters programme at Lancaster University

  • 20% fee reduction for Master's with Distinction degree holders
  • 10% fee reduction for Master's with Merit degree holders

Please note that the Alumni Loyalty Scholarship will be based on the most recent programme of study undertaken at Lancaster University.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for the Alumni Loyalty Scholarship you must either:

  • Hold an undergraduate or master's degree from Lancaster University (achieved at any time)
  • Hold an undergraduate or master’s degree from Lancaster University, achieved at any time, including one delivered through an associated institution
  • Have graduated from one of our partner institutions with a Lancaster University degree (LU Ghana, Sunway University Malaysia or LU College – BJTU Weihai China)
  • Have studied at Lancaster University via our Study Abroad programme

Some Masters by Research programmes may be eligible, contact us to check. The Scholarship is open to all our Alumni, regardless of their nationality or year of graduation. You do not need to apply for this scholarship; you will qualify automatically if you meet the eligibility criteria and the course entry requirements.

Postgraduate Loan Scheme

The UK Government has a postgraduate loan scheme for students undertaking Masters-level courses and will introduce loans for PhD students in 2018.

Non-means-tested loans of up to a maximum of £10,000 are available to taught and research Masters students. For PhD-level students, a maximum of £25,000 will be available.

Funded Masters by Research

Are you interested in being paid to research? The Lancaster-based Centre for Global Eco-Innovation runs funded Masters projects in cooperation with local and national businesses. Each company will have a unique project for you to work on, and your research will be monitored and assessed by Lancaster University.

As you work towards your Masters qualification you will join a cohort of like-minded researchers, make important connections, gain valuable experience, and earn £15,000 along with a tuition fee contribution from your partner company.
