American artist Jenny Holzer, who is best known for her text based art works, has been commission to create a piece of workto highlight the city’s cultural legacy from Viking times to the present. Holzer chooses to explore the consequences on civilian life whenever it is shattered by armed conflict. The work examines what it is to be forced to abandon home, find asylum in foreign refugee camps, begin anew in another country, or live permanently in exile. Established writers, contemporary younger voices, and ordinary citizens from Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Ethiopia, and Nigeria, each offers their personal perspective and a part of the larger story.
The theme of the text is 'Rethink' and a number of sources will be used of poetry, short prose works, and even personal letters. This will include Dimas short story ‘In the Land of Kan’an’. The work will feature words projected onto the façade of the Aarthus Theatre and scrolling through Bispetorv.
