PhD in English Literature

The PhD is a substantial research degree for well qualified students who have demonstrated their potential for independent study. Students work closely with one or two supervisors to develop an extended piece of research resulting in a thesis of 80,000 words. During their first year of study students will be required to attend the department's 'Research Methods' seminar on research technique and critical methodology, and fortnightly work in progress sessions.

Part-time students should note that they are also expected to attend the 'Research Methods' seminar during their first year.
