On 11 February, the English Department, in conjunction with FASS Enterprise, hosted a careers event for its students that boasted an array of speakers coming from a variety of different professions, from business management and consulting, to teaching, to journalism, and publishing.
Seven speakers from across the UK came to share their experiences and to offer an insight into what it is actually like to be in their career; the ups, the downs, and everything in-between. The event provided the opportunity for the students to be interactive, giving them a chance to ask questions and also starting out with a workshop that emphasised the key themes of the day: What values do you hold dear? And what kind of jobs are out there which you'll actually enjoy it?
The event saw over 40 students in attendance throughout the day and feedback has been incredibly positive, praising the variety of information that was available and in one case stating that the event 'has definitely opened my eyes about what I want out of my career and also my life in general'. To cap it off, the event has been recorded with the use of visual minutes which will be digitally recorded for students and staff alike to revisit and enjoy.
