Jan Stuhler will present "Kinship Correlations andIntergenerational Mobility"
Abstract : We propose a newmethodology to estimate long-run intergenerational socioeconomic mobility. Themodel is general enough to encompass the traditional and more recent “latentfactor” approaches. Our approach does not require to have information about thevariable of interest for individuals in several generations, but makes useof the correlations among individuals with different degrees ofkinship in the same generation. We fit this model using both Swedish registryand Spanish census data, and find a high degree of persistence in both thevertical and horizontal dimension of intergenerational transmission.
