Lancaster University is one of the safest campuses in the north-west of England however sometimes we do have the occasional theft of bikes.

Please secure your bicycle appropriately using a heavy duty good quality bicycle lock.  Recently we have also had two reports of bikes being tampered with, so please check that your bicycle is in a roadworthy condition before starting your journey. If you see any suspicious activity, please report this to security on 01524 594541 or 94541 on an internal line.

Each year a number of bicycles are left abandoned and in a state of disrepair. In accord with the University’s Bicycle Parking Policy, Security will remove any bicycles that appear to be abandoned and retain these for at least 8 weeks, prior to donating the bikes to a local bicycle reconditioning charity. In exceptional circumstances, any abandoned bike found to be in a seriously dilapidated condition that poses a significant health and safety risk and the bike clearly hasn’t been used for some time Security may dispose of it immediately. These actions are taken to help keep the campus safe and tidy and to ensure that cyclists can make the best use of the cycle parking facilities available. Bicycles should only be secured at a dedicated cycle stand.

Bicycle maintenance services and the sale of good quality cycle locks and other accessories are available every Thursday in term-time between 10:00 and 12:00 at the Bike Workshop. This is located next to the bin store in Bowland Avenue near Bowland Porters’ Lodge.
