The North Spine has opened to its former state following a series of works over Christmas vacation.

The North Spine underwent a series of construction works over the Christmas vacation period aimed at mitigating disruption by taking advantage of the quiet period. These works required the Spine to close at two major points, which diverted pedestrians through Bowland Quad. By conducting works in the Christmas period, the contractors were able to work on critical areas of the Spine without causing inconvenience to students in term-time.

With great success, the contractors have laid paving and installed the necessary steelworks in preparation to receive the rest of the canopy soon. Due to the success of the works, the contractors were able to re-open the North Spine to its former state. Access is now open to the Faraday Complex and the mouth of the North Spine from Alexandra Sqaure is open. All routes are reduced to half the normal width along the North Spine so please take care when using the route and where possible, use alternate routes.

The works along the North Spine are expected to continue in to February and further weekend works are expected in the coming weeks. To download a map of the current diversion click here.
