Contractors for the Spine Remodelling Project are progressing works along the South Spine in a series of phases over the next 5-6 weeks.

The first phase of works is to install a temporary staircase from the fire escape of the offices above the Deli, leading in to Edward Robert Courtyard. This is planned between the 8th and 9th of February. The works will involve the construction of the staircase over the ramp in Edward Roberts Court, which will close during construction periods.

Banksmen will be located at either side of the closure to assist people who are unable to use the staircase.

In addition to these works, contractors will commence steel works from Monday 12th Februaryalong the East elevation of the Library and West elevation of the shop (formerly UniTravel). Please expect these works to be intermittently disruptive as they involve drilling in to the brickwork of each building to install steel supports ahead of installing the canopy.

The second phase of works commence on Monday 19th February are require the Deli to close until Mid-March. LUSU Living will remain open but will trade from the rear doors (facing Edward Roberts Courtyard).

At this point, the stairs adjacent to the lift in in Furness College Courtyard will be closed for adjustment works. However, the lift is now in operation and as such, there is no diversion in place. Please be aware that the works in this area are likely to cause some minor noise disruption to the surrounding area.

Also, a new phase of the project is set to commence on Monday 19th February. Engineering Square. The pathway directly outside the Engineering Building, up to the pond opposite Fylde Quad is ready to be handed over to the contractors to begin transforming the area. Initially, heavy groundworks are planned in this area but pedestrian access will be maintained. There is likely to be some noise disruption to the surrounding area.

These works are expected to take around 5 weeks.
