New Engineering Building

Architect's impression of the new building year

Lancaster University is investing in a state-of-the-art building for the Engineering Department to replace existing facilities and provide additional areas for future growth and new specialisms such as Nuclear, Energy and Chemical Engineering.

The new building will provide a world-class environment with specially-designed workshops, teaching laboratories and office areas. The aim is to achieve the new BREEAM 2011 Outstanding rating for this building to reflect current regulations and industry benchmarks and to raise the bar in terms of building efficiency in line with National Sustainability and Carbon Reduction targets set for 2016 and 2022.

January 2015

The new engineering building opened on Monday of this week and staff and students have started moving in. The state-of-the-art building for the Engineering Department is providing additional areas for future growth and new specialisms such as Nuclear, Energy and Chemical Engineering. Work is ongoing on the phased completion of the external areas, which you will see being finished over the next few weeks. Once that is complete, the parking on the perimeter road outside the site will be reinstated as staff parking, providing 59 additional spaces. Farrer and Gillow Avenue car parks will return to being visitor parking.

This video gives you a sneak peek of the interior of the new engineering building as it nears the final stages of construction.
