In honour of this event the Department has organised two Special Lectures. They will take place on Friday 26th September in the Frankland Lecture Theatre; all are welcome.http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fas/maths/events/?event_id=1453Talk, Lecture or Seminar: 50th Anniversary Special Lectures: W. There will be three talks at the Meeting: one exploring the history of algebra and geometry in the UK and the other two given by mathematicians who helped shape our modern understanding of homotopical algebra and related fields. The meeting will also incorporate a Wikipedia Editathon.http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fas/maths/events/?event_id=1458Conference or workshop: Workshop on Homotopical Algebra and Geometry (Wednesday 8th - Saturday 11th April 2015)In the last couple of decades the influence of homotopical algebra has extended to representation theory, differential geometry and aspects of theoretical physics; its role and importance has been steadily increasing. This workshop aims to bring together experts from all these areas and more, to explore ideas of 'higher algebra' and foster new collaboration.http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fas/maths/events/?event_id=1459Schools Event: EDT Headstart: Exploring Shape and Space (Monday 27th - Thursday 30th July 2015)Geometry has been a major part of mathematics since the days of the Ancient Greeks. This residential summer school will explore some of the different questions arising from geometrical problems from 2000 years ago to the present day. Participants will meet concepts from university-level mathematics and experience what it is like to study mathematics though formulating problems precisely, looking at examples, generalising and applying logical argument and proof.http://www.lancs.ac.uk/fas/maths/events/?event_id=1460
