Noncommutative deformations and applications
I will talk on my joint work with Will Donovan (arXiv:1309.0698) which attaches new invariants to curves in 3-folds using noncommutative deformation theory. I will explain our motivation, and why studying noncommutative deformations is actually necessary. In the setting of 3-fold flops (certain surgeries in birational geometry), we obtain derived autoequivalences of our 3-fold, and in the process produce many new examples of finite dimensional self-injective algebras.
