Index theorems in noncommutative dynamics
In this talk I will describe a recently developed family of numerical invariants for noncommutative dynamical systems, and give some new classification results. Along the way we will take in some classical theorems on measurable dynamical systems and introduce the ''boundary index'' developed by Powers in the late 80s. Powers' boundary index displays intriguing connections with continuous tensor products of Hilbert spaces and non-classical stochastic processes, and it is this point of view which leads to new invariants.
