Algebras of holomorphic functions and a replacement for the peak point conjecture
We will introduce the notion of a function algebra and discuss examples and connections to polynomial and rational approximation in complex analysis. We will then discuss recent results concerning function algebras invariant under group actions. These results were inspired by a question raised by Ronald Douglas in connection with his work on a conjecture in operator theory due to William Arveson. Surprisingly the answer to Douglas' question is dimension dependent.
