Quantum Probabilistic Symmetries

An infinite sequence of random variables is said to be exchangeable if its law is invariant under permutation of these random variables. The celebrated de Finetti theorem characterizes an exchangeable sequence to be conditionally i.i.d. My talk will introduce into the recent progress on de Finetti type results for quantum probability. This will bring us into touch with subfactors, free probability, braid groups as well as the representation theory of the infinite symmetric group. My talk should be accessible for a general mathematical audience.
