Re-examining legal and criminal justice responses to rape

Date: 7 May 2015 Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm

Venue: Lancaster House Hotel

This one-day symposium will seek to assess whether the current legal and criminal justice responses to victims and perpetrators of rape are sufficient and whether there is a need to reform and reframe the existing responses. It will also explore the key themes and issues currently emerging in relation to rape for both academics and practitioners.

Speakers include: Detective Superintendent Susannah Cawley (Lancashire Constabulary), Tom Taylor (Survivors Manchester),  Professor Clare McGlynn (Durham University),  Professor Phil Rumney (University of West of England, Bristol), Dr Anna Carline and Dr Clare Gunby (Leicester University), Georgina Firth and Dr Siobhan Weare (Lancaster University). 

 Topics under discussion include:

·        Male Rape

      Legal reform

·        Survivors perspectives on justice and their journey within the CJS

·        Rape offences across Lancashire

·        Primary prevention interventions

·        Consent

 The seminar is free to delegates, with lunch and refreshments provided.

 Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
