Experiencing the Cyborg-self

Date: 4 February 2014 Time: 1.00-2.00 p.m.

Venue: FASS MR2

Julian Stubbe, visiting postgraduate from the Technical University, Berlin, gives a talk as part of the STS/GWS Admixtures seminar series.

Media Art received since its advent in the 1970s only little attention by scholars from science and technology studies. However, it is a field in which different experimental modes of human-technology relations can be studied. Within the presentation I would like to report on a media art installation, which I am investigating recently. The question I address in my study is how categories of humanness are translated to an experience of the self. In particular I will focus on the entanglements of immaterial objectivations and material configurations. The case I report on is an interactive art installation by the artist Seiko Mikami.
