  • One of my main research interests is in transitional criminal justice in post-dictatorial and post-conflict states. I am co-editing a collection on this topic with Dr Raluca Grosescu for Intersentia's Series on Transitional Justice (forthcoming). I have been successful in obtaining funding for my research on transitional justice in Poland, Romania and Albania. I am particularly interested in the misadministration of justice in the Stalinist period in Communist states (1944-1956) and the attempt made by post-Communist states to address the Communist legacy through the concept of Communist or totalitarian crimes. I am currently researching on the life and 1946 trial of the Albanian political dissident, Musine Kokalari. My second main area of research concerns the death penalty and its abolition in post-Communist Europe.

PhD Supervision Interests

I am interested in research proposals from students writing dissertations or theses under the following headings: comparative criminal justice; transitional criminal justice; totalitarian crimes; terrorism; death penalty
