Project Findings Inform Campaign Against Consumerism in Higher Education

Date: 11 March 2014

The findings from the ESRC-funded 'Pedagogic Quality and Inequality in University First Degrees' have been used as the basis for the University and College Union's (UCU) campaign to go beyond a focus on students as merely consumers of higher education. The UCU's Beyond the Consumerist Agenda Campaign (http://www.ucu.org.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6970) is based on a survey of members that supports the ESRC-funded project's findings that an undergraduate education is a process of personal transformation through engagement with knowledge rather than a primarily consumption-focused experience.
