Higher Education Close Up 5: Questioning Theory-Method Relations in Higher Education Research

Date: 20-22 July 2010

Venue: Lancaster University Conference Centre

Higher Education Close-Up is a peer reviewed biennial international conference, focused on discussing issues relating to in-depth research into higher education. The theme for HECU5 is 'Questioning Theory-Method Relations in Higher Education Research'. This theme is intended to highlight issues concerning researchers' reflexive engagement with the processes and outcomes of research into higher education. Each of the keynote speakers has provided a 'think piece', which raises questions about different aspects of this theme. The keynote speakers are:

Martyn Hammersley: Unreflective Practice? Case Study and the Problem of Theoretical Inference.

Louise Morley: Researching Absences and Silences in Higher Education.

Suellen Shay: Higher Education Studies as a Field: are we there yet?

Paul Trowler: Wicked Issues in Situating Theory in Close Up Research.

Further details including the Call for Proposals and the keynote speaker 'think pieces'can be found on the conference website
