MA in Education

The MA in Education offers students research-led professional and academic development. It is designed to enable students to construct programmes of study relevant to their own professional and academic concerns and, where appropriate, to the development concerns of their own institution. It provides structured input but allows for flexibility and encourages the development of research based skills.

To complete the MA in Education you need to take 6 modules and a 3 unit dissertation. EDS 801 Introduction to Educational Research and Evaluation is compulsory. You will need to choose a further five modules from:

  • EDS 811 Understanding Educational Change Management
  • EDS 812 Policy Analysis in Education
  • EDS 813 Contemporary Issues in Learning Teaching and Assessment
  • EDS 814 Engendered Education
  • EDS 808a Self Directed Study
  • EDS 808b Self Directed Study (you may opt to do 2 Self-Directed Studies).

Each module has associated coursework and we encourage the negotiation of topics or titles which are of particular relevance to an individual's professional situation. Students frequently join the course in order to develop research and evaluation skills which they will continue to use in their work, and a number use the opportunity of supervised independent study provided by the self-directed study and dissertation units to develop and evaluate research and intervention projects.
