Part-time Study

A large number of students on the MA Programme are practising professionals studying part-time in demanding circumstances.

We try to minimise the impact on students of needing to take leave from work. Most taught modules on the MA in Education are timetabled in the late afternoon or early evening on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Distance and on-line learning packages are available for some Faculty courses. Phasing of coursework takes account of students' workloads, and tutors are responsive to and aware of other demands outside the course. In addition, we have planned the content of the modules and their assignments to give part-time students the option to make a virtue of their part-time status in terms of using their place of work as a focus of study. The large proportion of independent learning on the programme means that staff and students can negotiate flexible times for supervision, using telephone and e-mail contact as well as individual tutorials.
