MA in Education and Religious Studies

This MA programme is designed to meet the needs of those with professional and other interests in religions and education by providing the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of Religious Studies and Educational Research. It is available full-time or part-time.

Students are able to choose modules from both the Religious Studies and Educational Research Departments (3 each) to a total of 6 modules and can undertake their dissertation with a supervisor of their choice from either department. Those interested should contact the MA Secretary in the Department of Educational Research.

Course Structure

Religious Studies modules are drawn from the following list (subject to availability):

  • RS411: Religion and Social Theory
  • RS433: Spirituality: From the Romantics to Well-being Culture
  • RS441: Women and Spirituality in Western Religious Traditions
  • RS 473: Hinduism Spirituality
  • RS489: Contemporary Ethical Issues (taught intensively on 4 Saturdays)
  • RS491: Asian Spiritualities
  • RS493: The Turn to 'Mind, Body and Spirit'
  • RS 495:Gender in Islam: Muslim Women and the Qur'an
