In collaboration with Lancaster University’s Recruitment and Outreach team and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, we put on Taster days and summer schools for those thinking about going to university. Further information.
We also visit many schools and give talks to sixth formers to explore with them the various ways languages may be studied at university and to answer questions from students on the UCAS process. Do contact us if you would like us to contribute to any activities that would benefit language study in your institution.

Routes into languages
Lancaster is proud to be part of the Routes into Languages project. It is a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages.
As part of the North West Routes consortium, we have organised enrichment days aimed at year 8 pupils and designed to motivate language learners and encourage them to carry on with their languages to GCSE level. Research shows that the events improve uptake at GCSE by 24%.We will run language tasters and cultural activities in Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish to encourage the learning of languages generally.
Over 200 Year 8 pupils experienced Catalan, Mandarin, Chinese calligraphy and painting and Latin at the 'Routes into Languages’ enrichment event in January and July 2014. Organised by DELC, the sessions were delivered by DELC in conjunction with the Confucius Institute. You can see a video about it here.
For more information about this or future ‘Routes into Languages’ events, please contact Carmen Rios-Garcia.
Campus in the city
