Making the Links: Disabled Women and Domestic Violence

Ravi K. Thiara, University of Warwick

Powerpoint presentation

Abstract

Drawing on the first national research study of its kind in England - conducted in partnership between University of Warwick, University of Bristol and national Women's Aid - the paper will present the findings from the research. It will outline the methodology - 2 national surveys, in-depth face to face interviews and discussions with key service providers and strategic personnel - and the key findings to emerge from this. The paper will explore the links between domestic violence and disabled women, the nature of services available and any gaps, and in particular detail some of the key issues for disabled women living with domestic violence. What do the findings reveal in relation to the development of practice? This is a question that will be highlighted and discussed in conclusion.
