Joining Instructions

Dear TBLT participant,

Final greetings before your journey to Lancaster......

We are very much looking forward to seeing you here. Here are three final bits of information before you set off: arrival instructions plus a link to the campus map; a note for presenters; and, for your packing, a note on the weather. We hope this is helpful.

Conference registration

This will be from 2.00 pm on Sunday (George Fox Bdg), and from 8.30 am-6.00 pm every day (LU Conference Centre, adjoining the Hotel).

Note for presenters

Session chairs and presenters have all been asked to ensure that all presentations allow 10 minutes discussion time, to allow interaction and to favour intellectual digestion. We will very much value your efforts in helping us achieve this.

Weather

We are sorry to have to say that Lancaster hasn’t had a good summer (if you had spent the summer here, you would probably be even sorrier): however we are now strongly concentrating our hopes on a fine September! Nonetheless please bear in mind that temperatures can be 2-4 C lower than London, and that in any case rain is never very far away from this part of the country. As a guide, we are currently wearing pullovers, are contemplating switching on the central heating, and more generally rainwear is standard Lancaster dress. If you really want a 5 day weather forecast try this website.

If you are staying at Lancaster House Hotel (no. 49 on the campus map)

Check in at the hotel reception. Register as above either in George Fox on Sunday pm, or in Conference Centre from 8.30 am.

Arriving by car, look out for signs on the road side to Lancaster House Hotel (NB do not take the main entrance road onto campus (at the traffic lights), but instead the entrance road next south with the sign ‘Lancaster House Hotel’ on the main road).

If arriving by bus, best to take numbers 3 or 4, and ask to be set down at the Management School building. Follow the signs to the University Conference Centre and Hotel beyond the campus perimeter.

If you are staying in campus accommodation:

Room keys will be available at the conference registration desk between 2:00 and 6:00 pm every day. Luggage can be stored at the conference registration desk on the day you arrive, and on the day you leave. Arriving before Sunday 2.00 pm, or any day after 6.00 pm, see below for details. NB Bailrigg Conference Centre is a separate branch of the CC, and is located on central campus, behind the Chaplaincy building.

1) Arriving before 2:00 pm Sunday

Go to the Bailrigg Conference Centre in Bowland (no. 21 on the campus map)

If arriving by cab, ask cabdriver to wait for you while you collect your key, and then take you on to your actual residence.

If arriving by car, enter campus via main entrance, and at the roundabout at top of hill turn left (1st exit), and turn first right after 75 metres. Park temporarily behind the Chaplaincy Building, and pick up signs to the Conference Centre (about 1 minute’s walk). After collecting key, follow directions from Conference Centre staff to residence.

If arriving by bus, alight at the underpass stop, go up the steps into Alexander Square, and then exit the square up a further set of steps, with the ATMs behind you, going north along the central spine (the central North-South walkway) for about 2 minutes. The Conference Centre will be on your left hand side.

2) Arriving 2:00-6:00 pm Sunday

Go to the Foyer of the George Fox Building (no. 47 on the campus map).

If arriving by taxi, ask the driver to drop you at George Fox Avenue.

If arriving by car, look for George Fox Avenue on the campus map, and park temporarily while you register.

If arriving by bus, alight at the underpass stop, go up the steps into Alexander Square, and then exit the square leaving ATMs to your left, going south down the central spine (the central North-South walkway) for about 5 minutes. The George Fox building will be the last building on the left hand side, set well back beyond a paved area.

3) Arriving 6.00-11.00 pm on any day

If arriving by taxi, ask the driver to wait for you while you collect your key, and then take you on to your actual residence.
