Date: 20 October 2006 Time: 4.00 pm

So far China's economic progress, measured in the standard terms of rates of growth of GNP, has been remarkable. It has outdone even the Asian Tigers, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. How can China attain the stable and sustainable growth that its leaders aim for? What are the main problems that they face? What are they doing to overcome these problems? What are the prospects for success?
