Saddam Hussein and the Death Penalty

Date: 22 November 2006 Time: 12 noon

Human Rights Forum Lunchtime Discussion

Wednesday 22 November, from12noon - 1pm

Venue: Faraday SR1

The topic of the death sentence handed down to Saddam Hussein in early November after being found guilty of crimes against humanity will be introduced by Dr Israel Butler (Law School). Those attending the discussion will be invited to exchange views over the possible consequences of the expected execution of Iraq's former leader and the implications of this sentence. Will it fuel or dampen the current conflict within the country? What do the USA or UK stand to gain and lose? What kind of reaction can be expected from other States in the Middle East?
