Tony Benn Lecture
Date: 20 October 2008 Time: 2.00 - 4.00pm
The veteran political campaigner Tony Benn is to give a public lecture at Lancaster University.
He has been invited to deliver the 2008 Richardson Institute Annual Peace Lecture. The Richardson Institute is a peace and conflict research centre and part of the Department of Politics and International Relations.
The Institute's Director Dr Feargal Cochrane said: "We're very pleased that he's accepted our invitation to come to Lancaster University because he's a leading peace campaigner, a great speaker and we're sure he'll attract a full house. We will have roving microphones so that people can ask questions."
The talk entitled "Peace or War: the Choice for Humanity" will draw on Mr Benn's years of experience both as a Labour MP and Cabinet minister and more recently as an anti-war campaigner.
The lecture is from 2pm to 4pm on Monday October 20th at the Faraday Lecture Theatre and is open to everyone. As this is likely to be an extremely well attended event it would be advisable to be at the venue in good time for the beginning of the lecture.
This is the third annual peace lecture at the Richardson Institute which was established in 1959 as the first peace research centre in Britain. The inaugural lecture was given by the renowned Middle East correspondent of The Independent Robert Fisk, who is an alumnus of Lancaster University. Last year's peace lecture was delivered by the distinguished former BBC Foreign Affairs Correspondent Martin Bell.
