This is the first meeting of the newly established CeDR Reading Group which is open to all. The informal discussion will be an enjoyable way to advance our ideas and knowedge in Disability Studies.

Hughes, B. (2006) 'Disability activisms: social model stalwarts and biological citizens', Disability & Society,24: 6, 677 688

Hughes, B. (2006) Being disabled: towards a critical social ontology for disability studies', Disability &Society, 22: 7, 673 684

Readers new to Bill Hughes' work may find his now classic article written with Kevin Paterson helpful background reading:

Hughes, B. & Paterson, K. (1997) 'The Social Model of Disability and the Disappearing Body: towards asociology of impairment', Disability & Society, 12: 3, 325 340.

The discussion will be chaired by Professor Carol Thomas and CeDR PGR Ana Pereira.
