Clare Carlisle (Liverpool University) - Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling

A classic text that continues to provoke and perplex readers. Reflecting on the biblical story of Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac, Kierkegaard raises questions about the relationships between faith and reason, religion and ethics. Even more importantly, he asks how it is possible to maintain relationships with other human beings, and also with God, when every life is haunted by suffering and loss.

Clare Carlisle has published a number of books including (2010) Kierkegaard's 'Fear and Trembling': A Reader's Guide. London: Continuum; (2006) Kierkegaard: A Guide for the Perplexed: Continuum
