Doctoral Lecture-Recital: The Inter-war piano music of Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983)

Date: 7 May 2010 Time: 1.50 pm - 3.30pm

Venue: Jack Hylton Music Rooms

Adam Greig will explore his practice-led approach to the inter-war piano music of Germaine Tailleferre. This event, which consists of a one hour lecture-recital followed by a twenty minute recital, will act as the practical submission for his doctoral thesis. There will be a five minute break between the lecture-recital and the recital. He will be joined by Peter Noke for double piano examples, and in the performance of double piano works.

During the lecture he will explore the interactions between biographical information and the performance process; notions of 'embodied' performance understanding and how this can be incorporated into the analytic process; the role of the performer as editor; and power relations created between performers in works for more than one instrument.

The recital will solely comprise works by Germaine Tailleferre including:

Pastorale (1918); Pastorale en la bmol (1929); Pastorale en ut (1930) Adagio from the Concerto pour piano et orchestre (1924) Deux valses pour deux pianos (1928)
